ARDEN HILLS, Minn.- The Minnesota Army National Guard set to host ribbon cutting and open house at new Ben Franklin Readiness Center, 1536 Ben Franklin Boulevard, Arden Hills, Minnesota, Friday January 8th at 10 a.m.
"The new facility will be a great improvement for our unit, allowing our soldiers to be better trained and prepared to complete our assigned mission," said Capt. Timothy Gorecki, Alpha company commander.
"The Ben Franklin Readiness Center provides the required training, storage and maintenance space needed to store and maintain our equipment properly," said Gorecki.
The new facility was designed by Burns and McDonnel of Bloomington, Minn., constructed by LS Black Constructors of St. Paul, Minn. and commissioned by LHB of Duluth, Minn. The cost of the 64,000 square foot facility was $17 million funded federally. The Ben Franklin Readiness Center will house three companies of the 834th Aviation Support Battalion.
The facility is a great example of the "Green" initiatives that the Minnesota National Guard is using in its new construction, and will meet the US Green Building Council LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) Silver facility requirements. The site has a projected annual energy cost of .52₵ per square foot, well below the MN National Guard average of $1.08 per square foot. The facility uses geothermal heating and cooling, extensive use of "daylighting" to harvest natural light, as well as other strategies.
"The Ben Franklin Readiness Center will be a great addition to our Arden Hills Campus," said COL Larry Herke, facilities management officer for the Minnesota National Guard.
Members of the media are invited to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony, Friday, January 8th at 10 a.m. at the Ben Franklin Readiness Center, 1536 Ben Franklin Drive, Arden Hills, 55112. Members of the media are invited to arrive 30 minutes prior to the beginning of the ceremony.
